The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources announced today that the North Carolina Land and Water Fund Board of Trustees has awarded more than $28 million in grants for projects that will protect North Carolina’s land and water from the mountains to the coast.

The Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies, a nonprofit affiliated with the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, has selected three organizations to receive special Newsome Awards, funded by America 250 NC. The awards recognize these projects for outstanding local history contributions to the America 250 NC commemoration:
North Carolina State Parks and its parent agency, the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, announced today that the Land and Water Conservation Fund, a program under the federal Department of the Interior, has awarded nearly $4 million total to nine local parks and recreation projects across the state.
The North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR), is pleased to announce $10,990,208 in grant awards for fiscal year 2026-27. A total of 340 grants will support nonprofit arts organizations, schools, after-school programs, municipalities, and artists in all 100 counties this year. Grant amounts range from $2,000-$354,262.
In addition to its competitive grant programs, this year the North Carolina Arts Council facilitated $1,118,957 in direct appropriations to the Lost Colony.
The NC Aquarium Society received a $25,000 grant from New Hanover County to support the expansion and renovation of the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher (NCAFF), helping advance new habitats, educational spaces, and visitor experiences. A division of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, the North Carolina Aquariums connect more than a million visitors to the aquatic world each year, inspiring care and conservation of nature.

The Library of North Carolina, a division of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, is proud to announce awards to local libraries. Across the state, 46 awards have been issued for a total of $2,785,339 in grant funds from the Library of North Carolina with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) to support new or expanded library programs and services, as well as limited ongoing projects.
