The North Carolina Arts Council has awarded $915,000 to nonprofit arts organizations in Western North Carolina affected by Hurricane Helene. The grants utilize funds from the North Carolina Arts Foundation’s North Carolina Arts Relief Fund, the National Endowment for the Arts, and South Art’s Southern Arts Relief and Recovery Fund.
At its December meeting, the North Carolina Trails Committee selected 13 trail development projects and five safety and education projects to receive matching federal grants, the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation announced. In addition, the committee recommended the official designation of the first access points on the new Haw River State Trail and four accesses on the Yadkin River State Trail.
The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources has received a $75,000 award through a grant from the PNC Foundation to Friends of Fort Fisher.
The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation announced that the Parks and Recreation Authority has awarded over $7.6 million from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund for state parks projects for fiscal year 2024-25. Over $1.2 million was approved for two land acquisition projects and an additional $6.4 million-plus for five capital projects and statewide maintenance.
The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation announced that it has awarded $6.6 million in grants for 17 land acquisition projects on state trails in nine counties. The funding comes from the Complete the Trails Program and will leverage more than $42.9 million in matching funds provided by local nonprofit state trail partners.
The North Carolina Land and Water Fund Board of Trustees met October 1 and 2 to consider grant applications and make awards for projects that will protect North Carolina’s land and water from the mountains to the coast.“As we continue the unprecedented response to communities impacted by Hurricane Helene, we are reminded that conservation makes us more resilient to future events,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “These important grants will help protect our state’s land and wetlands for generations to come.”
The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources will receive $750,000 to replace the roof of the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse at Historic Edenton State Historic Site. The project is being supported in part by a Semiquincentennial Grant from the Historic Preservation Fund administered by the National Park Service.
The North Carolina Historic Preservation Office has received an African American Civil Rights (AACR) Grant from the National Park Service to undertake an architectural survey of resources associated with the Civil Rights movement in northeastern North Carolina.
The N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is now accepting applications for a second round of America 250 NC grants. The grants are designed to spark programs and activities on a local level to create a memorable and meaningful commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
