A returning Johnston County festival will celebrate North Carolina’s agricultural heritage alongside the changing of the seasons.
The Tobacco Farm Life Museum, part of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, is hosting its second annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the museum grounds. Admission is free.
“Last year’s festival reminded us how deeply these farm and family traditions still resonate,” Museum Site Manager Sarah Morrell said. “We’re excited to share that experience with the community once again.”
The festival will feature traditional fall activities that align with the museum’s mission of preserving and showcasing the history of the eastern North Carolina farm family. There will be antique tractors, hands-on activities, historic demonstrations, fall-themed games, music, crafts, traditional cider press demonstrations, and more. Local community organizations will also be there sharing their knowledge and expertise. DNCR participation includes the America 250 NC Airstream, Library of North Carolina’s Native Seed Library, and the Division of State History Museums. The museum and the Tobacco Farm Life grounds will be open to the public on festival day as well. Support for the festival has been provided by Wilson County Tourism Development Authority and the Friends of the Tobacco Farm Life Museum.
“We are eager to host a second Harvest Festival because celebrating our agricultural heritage brings the community together in a way nothing else can,” Morrell said. “We invite everyone to come and learn something new or reminisce on memories from years ago.”
The museum is located at 709 North Church St. in Kenly. Admission to the museum and its grounds, where the festival is being held, is free. For more information about the museum, programs or exhibits, visit tobaccofarmlifemuseum.nc.gov or call 919-588-6061.
