The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) has announced that Maylon White has been chosen as director for the North Carolina Aquariums Division. White will take over the role on March 4, 2019, and follows the departure of David Griffin, who retired in January after leading the division for 16 years.

Jeff Jones has been named superintendent of Stone Mountain State Park in Wilkes and Allegheny counties, according to the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation. Jones succeeds Bill Meyer, who recently retired after 31 years of service to the division. Jones has served as acting superintendent at Stone Mountain State Park since Bill Meyer’s retirement in December 2018.
N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Secretary Susi Hamilton announces the appointment of Joshua Davis as the new Chief Financial Officer for the department.
A native of Davis, N.C., in Carteret County, he has worked at DNCR for over eight years and previously served as the department’s Strategy and Policy Advisor and the Director of Internal Audit. Prior to working at DNCR, Davis worked at the Office of the State Auditor for seven years as a Financial Auditor and Performance Audit Supervisor.

The North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) has named Valerie Hillings as its next Museum director. A Duke University graduate and curator with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation (Guggenheim) for over 14 years, Hillings is currently curator and associate director of curatorial affairs for the future Guggenheim Abu Dhabi museum. She will join the NCMA on November 1, 2018, when Dr. Larry Wheeler retires after 24 years at the helm of the Museum.
Jaki Shelton Green will be installed as North Carolina’s ninth Poet Laureate on Wed., Sept. 19 in a ceremony at the State Capitol.
Dwayne Patterson, currently chief financial officer of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, has been named director of the state Division of Parks and Recreation.
Governor Roy Cooper today announced that poet, teacher, and community arts advocate Jaki Shelton Green will serve as North Carolina’s ninth poet laureate.
“Jaki Shelton Green brings a deep appreciation of our state’s diverse communities to her role as an ambassador of North Carolina literature,” Governor Cooper said. “Jaki’s appointment is a wonderful new chapter in North Carolina’s rich literary history."

John Privette, a veteran park ranger, has been promoted to superintendent of Raven Rock State Park in Harnett County, according to the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation. He succeeds Superintendent J.R. Murr, who accepted a position with the N.C. Forest Service.
A superintendent manages operations and administration at a state park or state recreation area with wide-ranging responsibilities for staffing, training, law enforcement, visitor services, natural resource protection and environmental education.
