The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources announces that 17 individual properties across the state, including seven shipwrecks, have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The following properties were reviewed by the North Carolina National Register Advisory Committee and were subsequently approved by the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Officer and forwarded to the Keeper of the National Register.

A ca. 1845 china press crafted by African-American master cabinetmaker Thomas Day will be the first piece by the celebrated craftsman to be installed in the North Carolina Executive Mansion.
The china press will be presented to First Lady Kristin Cooper by N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Secretary Susi H. Hamilton at an event scheduled for 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the Executive Mansion.

The recent heavy flooding in Bertie County caused flood waters to rise up to four feet high in the Craftsman and Farmers Museum in downtown Windsor. Much of the museum’s collection of antique farming implements and tools were submerged under water and in need of care and cleaning.
