Get up close and personal with Civil War-era shells and weapons at the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center's "Hands on History: Ordnance" program. The event, June 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is the first in the site's "Hands on History" series on the last Saturday of the month, June through September.

The international singer songwriter, Jennifer Licko, specializing in Scots Gaelic and Country folk music is bringing her international band back to the Southeast, including a performance at the North Carolina History Center Tuesday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m.

Fire truck lovers will make their way to the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer Saturday, June 18, for what will be one of the largest gatherings of fire trucks for public display in the state.   

The North Carolina Symphony will celebrate America’s 240th birthday with a concert of patriotic favorites and high-spirited classics in its traditional free Independence Day concert, with fireworks, at Fayetteville’s Festival Park, Friday, July 1, at 8 p.m.  Concertgoers may bring food and non-alcoholic beverages.  Pets are not permitted in Festival Park.
