The free, fun, family event, "Pork, Pickles and Peanuts: Tastes of North Carolina" at Duke Homestead July 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., celebrates North Carolina's food history and culture. It focuses on everything that makes the state taste great with the highly competitive and extremely tasty annual Barbecue Cook-Off and Pie Competition.

Tryon Palace will host a new Fourth of July "Independence Night" event at the North Carolina History Center, located on New Bern's historic riverfront, Monday, July 4, from 6-9:30 p.m.

Prepare to have a patriotic Fourth of July celebration as an encounter with history or an adventure with nature at N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDCR) attractions this year.

The international singer songwriter, Jennifer Licko, specializing in Scots Gaelic and Country folk music is bringing her international band back to the Southeast, including a performance at the North Carolina History Center Tuesday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m.

The point of controversy eventually rested on one issue and the argument in North Carolina was vigorous and, at times contentious. Conservatives led by James Iredell wanted the document left alone. Their opponents, led by Willie Jones, insisted on added protections for individual liberties.

Fire truck lovers will make their way to the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer Saturday, June 18, for what will be one of the largest gatherings of fire trucks for public display in the state.   

The North Carolina Symphony will celebrate America’s 240th birthday with a concert of patriotic favorites and high-spirited classics in its traditional free Independence Day concert, with fireworks, at Fayetteville’s Festival Park, Friday, July 1, at 8 p.m.  Concertgoers may bring food and non-alcoholic beverages.  Pets are not permitted in Festival Park.

NC Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Touring Company returns to Roanoke Island Festival Park with Commedia Princess and the Pea June 15, 16, 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Indoor Theatre.

The North Carolina Symphony will give a free outdoor concert Saturday, June 18, at 7:00 p.m. in Riverwalk Crossing Park in Jacksonville.  Symphony Associate Conductor David Glover will lead the orchestra in “Concerts in Your Community: Favorite Light Classics.”
