The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, which manages the North Carolina Highway Historical Marker Program, requests the public’s help in locating a missing historical marker. The marker was located on Lejeune Boulevard adjacent to the base in Jacksonville and it detailed the history of Camp Lejeune.

The N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, which manages the North Carolina Highway Historical Marker Program, requests the public’s help in locating a missing historical marker. The marker was located on I-85 Business/US 29/70 west of Thomasville and is about John Mills, the head of Oxford Orphanage and Thomasville Baptist Orphanage (Mills Home) and president Oxford Female College.

Make a stop at the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center on your visit to see the annual Christmas parade and beautiful lights in downtown Dec. 9. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and afterwards visitors can enjoy cider and cookies in the museum. Experience a Victorian Christmas while making a craft with staff and see the opening of the Foster’s Raid exhibit. The exhibit requires admission; cookies and craft are free.

From April 1- May 30, 2018, Reed Gold Mine will host a traveling World War I exhibit as part of the 100th anniversary statewide commemoration of the war. Here’s your chance to help reflect that history. Reed is seeking original period artifacts from 1914-1918 related to Cabarrus County towns and surrounding counties. The site will return all artifacts loaned.

Governor Roy Cooper and First Lady Kristin Cooper will celebrate the holiday season and welcome visitors to the Governor’s Western Residence, 45 Patton Mountain Rd, Asheville, for an open house Saturday, Dec. 9, from 1-3 p.m

The winter of 1755 was harsh and unforgiving. Fort Dobbs State Historic Site will offer a glimpse into the daily lives of French and Indian War soldiers in the winter of 1755, Saturday, Dec. 9.   Historic interpreters representing the garrison of Fort Dobbs will present scheduled musket and cannon firing demonstrations as well as on-going displays of life in a winter military camp, including open fire cooking.

Falls Lake State Recreation Area will host a public meeting next week to discuss a no wake zone in the Holly Point area of the park. The meeting is in response to concerns submitted by boat ramp users who have experienced property damage and injury due to excessive wake while using the boat ramp at Holly Point.
