Historic Laundry Demonstration

-

Daily life in the late 18th century wasn’t all about cooking. There was a long list of chores or jobs that had to be done to survive and function during this time. Gardening, planting, gathering, cleaning, maintaining animals and protecting the farm were all daily parts of the backcountry life. But one can only imagine that there were things which they considered to be undesirable tasks, and laundry I think would have been one of those chores.
Join the Historical Hearth Cooks on May 17 as we demonstrate how laundry was done. From mending, repairing and pre - treatment of stains, to boiling the clothes and beating them with a bucking board, we will spend the day demonstrating the different equipment, techniques, and methods used to keep the clothes and linens as clean as possible.

Suggested donation $5/adult, $2/seniors and children
