To whom it may concern: My friend Connie Bostic
I have known Connie Bostic for most of my life. I taught some of her children, also taking them to and from school (sometimes with a pig in the back)! Connie has been a regular book club member that meets at our house, and she always brought a beautiful cake. She lost two of her children, tragically, and recently a son-in-law. Her grandchildren have been a part of our lives, both in our church, and with my wife's horse camp.
I watched years ago as Connie transitioned to become, or to realize her ambitions, as an artist. I thought at the time that it was her way of dealing with tragedy, and never imagined it would blossom with so much creativity and influence. I will leave it to others to glory in her talents.
She also became a cantankerous critic in the burgeoning art community of Asheville. She opened up a gallery in the down town, often managed by her accountant husband George Bostic. We used to kid him about the challenge he faced in making a financial go of the business, and referred to him as Saint George for his willing devotion to Connie's artistic endeavors. George is sadly deceased. Connie bought the old welding shop, Harold's, to re-build as her art studio, where she also taught her friends and neighbors.
Not too long ago, Connie had a mild heart attack on our porch at our book club meeting, and it made me realize the time was running short to recognize this remarkable woman. Out of so much tragedy she has emerged as someone with a powerful point of view, and found a way to put an artistic expression to her passion.
Much obliged to all involved,
