Never Stop Learning: Lifelong Learning at DNCR

At DNCR, we know that kids aren’t the only ones who love to learn. Grown-ups love it, too!  DNCR sites across the state offer many opportunities to quench anyone’s thirst for knowledge.

Here is a sampling of learning experiences that are regularly offered across DNCR sites:

  1. Guided and self-guided tours

Many DNCR sites offer regular public tours. Here are a few to get you started. You can always check an individual site’s events calendar to find special interest tours that occur seasonally.

  • North Carolina Museum of Art Public Tours: With a diverse menu of free tour experiences, visitors can easily find an experience that suits any interest. Reservations are encouraged but not required.
  • North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences Themed Tours: Dig a little deeper into the exhibits with self-guided tours curated with specific themes like the Hidden Gems Tour, Extinct Tour, and the Bug Out Tour.
  • NC Zoo Art in the Park Self-Guided Tour: The North Carolina Zoo’s extensive animal art collection magnifies nature's beauty and complexity. The Zoo features over 150 art pieces that range from wall art to animal sculptures and paintings that emulate nature’s diversity. Download the guide online.
  1. Behind the scenes at North Carolina Aquariums

The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and the North Carolina Aquarium Roanoke Island both offer this special experience for a small extra fee. Visitors can see what’s on the other side of the exhibits and learn more about how aquarium staff care for the animals.

  1. Events and Tours at North Carolina Historic Sites

History unfolds daily at North Carolina Historic Sites. Many sites have regularly scheduled tours and programs that take you deep into North Carolina’s history. Find a tour or program on the Historic Sites Event Calendar or visit the page for any individual site to see what’s happening there.

  1. Genealogy research at the Library of North Carolina

If you are interested in genealogy research, the Library of North Carolina can help you get started on your journey. Find research guides and tools both in person and online.
