Who am I ?

Greetings, my name is Angelena Castro, the Marketing and Communications Intern for the North Carolina Department of Natural & Cultural Resources. This summer, I will be creating multimedia content for viewers like you to enjoy!

A little about myself, I was born in North Carolina and grew up in the town of Lilesville. I am senior at NC Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro, NC.  My major is Journalism and Mass Communications. During my undergraduate career, I have had the opportunity to study abroad in Germany, Jamaica, and England. During these experiences, I was also able to gain some work experience. I was a student blogger for the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) in Berlin, Germany. In Kingston, Jamiaca, I served as a student tutor to 5th graders in the subject areas of reading and math. Most recently, while studying in London, England, I was an Ambassador for the Famous Kensington-Chelsea Portobello Road Market.

I love meeting people and learning about world cultures and the diversity in nature of our world. When I returned from Jamaica, I wanted to make a positive impact on the children there, that would assist them in their efforts to continue school and build self esteem. I knew that one thing they really needed were nice school shoes. I returned during the following spring with new shoes for the 6th graders and have done so each year. This service project led to others in the Dominican Republic. My goal is to build self esteem and inspire children and families in more developing communities, including limited resource communities in North Carolina. In the winter of 2018, I created the non profit, Sole Her Soul International Outreach to achieve this goal.

My hobbies include, traveling (I visited 11 countries), watching vintage movies, strength building exercises, ethnic foods and beverages, and learning new skill sets.
