Secretary Susan Kluttz joined Governor Pat McCrory recently in signing a pledge to contribute to the 2013 State Employees Combined Campaign. DCR employees’ annual charitable gift giving campaign begins in October with a Charity Fair in the DCR lobby and runs through Thanksgiving. SECC is the only fundraising campaign authorized to solicit charitable contributions in the state employee workplace.

As Secretary of Cultural Resources, Susan Kluttz is in many ways an ambassador of North Carolina culture to other states and countries. Sec. Kluttz, along with Chief Deputy Sec. Karin Cochran and N.C. Arts Council Director Wayne Martin, met with Yonit Stern, Director of Cultural Affairs for the Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast United States. Based out of Atlanta, Stern is looking to make cultural resource exchanges throughout the region.
Cultural Resources Sec. Susan Kluttz was one of the first people in almost 300 years to see cannons used on Blackbeard’s flagship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge, as they were recovered from the seafloor late last week. The raising of the two cannons was the culmination of the spring dive season led by state archaeologists in concert with a number of partners and supporters. She was thrilled to be able to witness such a momentous occasion. “I’m so proud for North Carolina.” Sec.
Did you know that the creative industry accounts for almost 320,000 jobs, or 6 percent of North Carolina’s workforce? Last week Sec. Kluttz got the chance to meet some of the people who work in and help create those jobs at the North Carolina Presenters Consortium’s (NCPC) annual meeting.
Secretary of Cultural Resources Susan Kluttz noted the passing of Governor James Holshouser this morning: "The Department of Cultural Resources, like all of North Carolina, will certainly miss the leadership and service of Governor Holshouser. He led our state through difficult times and made significant investments in its people through his support of education, environmental protection and economic development.
Late last month Sec. Susan Kluttz joined Lt. Gov. Dan Forest and local officials aboard the Battleship North Carolina to honor veterans for Memorial Day. The day’s activities included in memoriam remarks from Rear Admiral Steven H. Ratti, Commander of Fifth Coast Guard District and military musical arrangements by the 440th NC Army National Guard Band. The celebration was the ship’s 48th annual Memorial Day event.
