Catherine Swain

Director, Marketing

Catherine Swain is the Director of Marketing for the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. A proud North Carolina native, she leads the agency’s creative, multimedia, and marketing shared services division, serving all parts of the agency.

In this role, Catherine has managed multiple statewide campaigns and commemorations, including She Changed the World, Hello NC, PATH (Park and Trails for Health), Come Hear NC, and America 250 NC, amongst others. She brings over 35 years of experience creating, implementing, and managing marketing, branding, and content initiatives for major media brands, including AOL, MTV, VH1, CMT, Nickelodeon, Smithsonian, TED, Univision, Ticketmaster, and LiveNation. Prior to state government, she led branding and digital strategies for top-tier artists, authors, and thought leaders, rolling out extensive campaigns across various media outlets and platforms. She has also spearheaded the development of digital and mobile applications and worked to develop content strategies for a variety of brands seeking to increase engagement and impact.

She has been involved with a number of professional associations and organizations over the years, including the Elon University Alumni Board, Carrboro Arts Center, Leadership Music Association, Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, Recording Industry Association of America, Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Americana Music Association, International Bluegrass Music Association, TED and ASPCA.
