Brett Altman

Brett Altman has more than a decade of experience in North Carolina budget, finance, and policy roles across the executive and legislative branches and in state government leadership. Prior to joining DNCR, he served in a senior leadership role at the Office of State Budget and Management, where he helped lead budget development, policy analysis, and strategic advising across multiple agency portfolios and statewide issues. He previously held leadership roles in the central budget office at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and in the Fiscal Research Division of the North Carolina General Assembly. Before embarking on a career in state government, Altman worked at the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center, supporting innovative economic development initiatives in communities across the state.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, both in political science, though he received his education at the NCGA. Outside of work, he can often be found on a trail, in a library, or taking advantage of the many places and experiences that make North Carolina special.
