Exploring America 250 NC with DNCR

June marked an incredible start for the 2025 America 250 NC Freedom Fellows! sponsored by DNCR as part of our statewide leadership of the America 250 NC initiative and hosted in partnership with Carolina K-12.

15 dedicated educators, representing each region of the state and multiple backgrounds—urban & rural, veteran & new teachers, disciplines from history and special education to science and English as a second language—began their 7-month journey into 250 years of North Carolina's rich history.

Their adventure included exploring key sites and programs managed by DNCR, such as the State Capitol, State Archives, State Library, and the NC African American Heritage Commission.

And despite their varied backgrounds, these incredible teachers share a common goal: to help all NC students connect with our past and envision a brighter future throughout the Fellowship.

Fellow Alex Rowe, a teacher at Crest High School in Cleveland County, commented, “I have really enjoyed the Fellowship and the content that's been presented. Finding different stories and learning new ways to illuminate them in the classroom has been extraordinarily beneficial. I have been incredibly inspired by the content, the other Fellows, and the leadership/speakers. The support provided has been incredible! I can't wait to be part of more.”
