The President James K. State Historic Site and the Friends of President Polk's Birthplace, Inc. are partnering for Polk Fest, a special day of programming at the historic site. On Saturday, Oct. 17, visitors can bid on silent auction items, as well as participate in a variety of games, special presentations, living history demonstrations, and arts and crafts. The great jobs of today and tomorrow are in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM). Yet people with disabilities remain underrepresented in these fields. To help turn that tide, the 13th annual STEAM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities will be held at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences on Tuesday, October 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The museum is part of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Three decades of creepy, crawly, fluttering fun come together when the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences hosts BugFest on Saturday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. This year’s theme, “Hoppers,” spotlights treehoppers, leafhoppers and planthoppers, including the invasive and already infamous spotted lanternfly. With the official ribbon cutting today, Wednesday, July 8, visitors began touring this mini aquarium which features seahorses, frogs, fish and carnivorous plants. During the yearslong closure of the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher (NCAFF) for renovation and expansion, this spot creates connection between the team and the community.
