The State Archives of North Carolina, a division of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, invites the public to attend an upcoming webinar, “From Enslavement to Reconstruction: Lives of the Greene County USCT,” to commemorate Juneteenth.

“The din of battle roared like one continuous peel of heavy thunder,” wrote one eyewitness to the 1865 battle of Bentonville. On Saturday, June 13, Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site will recreate a small percentage of that noise during its “Heavy Thunder: Summer Artillery and Infantry Program.” The free program runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Bentonville Battlefield is administered by the Division of State Historic Sites within the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Curious about Kinston during the Civil War? The CSS Neuse Museum invites the public to step back in time on Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., for “Kinston’s Civil War Experience: Homefront, Sailors, and Soldiers.” This engaging and immersive event will explore life in Lenoir County in the 1860s. The CSS Neuse Museum is administered by the Division of State Historic Sites, part of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Bennett Place State Historic Site will commemorate the 160th anniversary of its Civil War surrender with two public programs on April 25-26. These programs mark the end of the 160th-anniversary commemorations of the American Civil War in North Carolina by North Carolina State Historic Sites.

Experience history come alive at the Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site 160th anniversary program March 15-16. Thousands of living historians from across the country will descend on Bentonville Battlefield for one of the nation’s largest battle reenactments.
