Music, Dance and 'Que Fest at President Polk Site Saturday, May 14

Ring in spring with the new "Music, Dance and 'Que Fest" at President James K. Polk State Historic Site, Sat., May 14, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Music will fill the air all day, as performers sing, dance and play their way through 19th century tunes. The day of free family fun will recall festive times at the Polk family home. Guests should bring blankets, chairs or even a bale of hay for seating.

Entertainment will be provided by the Appalachian Dulcimer Club, Red Hills English Country Folk Dance, the Myers Park Consort and the headliner, the Myers Park High School Bluegrass Club. Visitors can watch or dance along.

A hearty barbecue dinner will be for sale that includes a meat, three sides, roll and drink for $12. Good music, good food and good times will offer a joyous and relaxing spring day.

It commemorates significant events in the administration of the 11th  president, James K. Polk, who was born in Mecklenburg County. The site is within the Division of State Historic Sites, part of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
