The North Carolina Symphony returns to Tryon Palace in downtown New Bern for its annual free concert on the South Lawn Tuesday, June 7. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
The North Carolina Symphony and Associate Conductor David Glover will perform "Your Favorite Light Classics," including Vivaldi's "Spring" from The Four Seasons, featuring violinist Elizabeth Phelps; as well as instrumental selections from Bizet's Carmen, dance music from Grieg, Brahms, and Copland, and more. The performance is part of the Symphony's summer "Concerts in Your Community," free concerts presented throughout the state.
The concert is presented by PotashCorp - Aurora, as well as the New Bern Series chapter board of the North Carolina Symphony. Media Partners are Public Radio East and the New Bern Sun Journal.
Participants can bring chairs and blankets, but pets and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
The public is also invited to purchase tickets to a picnic buffet dinner preceding the concert to support the North Carolina Symphony's education concerts in Craven County. The picnic will be held at the North Carolina History Center at Tryon Palace beginning at 5 p.m. Picnic attendees receive dinner, reserved parking at the North Carolina History Center and reserved seats on the lawn for the Tryon Palace performance. Picnic tickets are $60 per person. The North Carolina Symphony will return to New Bern with three classical concerts, the annual Holiday Pops concert, and a new Young People's Concert for the 2016-2017 season. Details to be announced soon, and more information will be available online at ncsymphony.org.
